The New York Jets are in serious talks with the Packers and Brett Favre’s agent about acquiring his services → jetscentral.com

Pete Dougherty and Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press Gazette reports Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, has been in talks with the Jets, who have shown a growing interest, but Cook has not been working closely with the Buccaneers, according to two sources.

Ted Thompson, the Packers’ general manager, has been asking for a draft pick that could escalate to a better pick based on Favre’s and the new team’s performance. Thompson and the Packers have stated repeatedly they plan to move forward with Aaron Rodgers, the former first-round pick and Favre’s backup the past three years, as their starting quarterback.

Update - 10:25 p.m. ET - ESPN News is reporting that two different sources are claiming that Brett Favre will most likely accept the marketing and merchandising deal the Packers are offering him. Nothing is confirmed, but the sources are saying Favre is leaning that way and a definitive decision will be made in the next 48 hours.

Update - 10:27 p.m. ET - Dan Leberfeld is reporting that a source close to the Jets told him, referring to the Press Gazette article, that this isn’t the case. He told a Jets beat reporter, “You can sleep well tonight.”

“He’s a cute little fella.  He doesn’t throw very hard and doesn’t have very good stuff.  It was probably a good idea that they did throw him out because it probably would have been [a shot to] Monument Park.  He’s good hittin’.” —The Orioles Kevin Millar on last night’s ejection of Yankees pitcher Edwar Ramirez - MLB Rumors

“The Red Sox don’t deserve a player like me. During my years here I’ve seen how they have mistreated other great players when they didn’t want them to try to turn the fans against them…The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy. I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don’t deserve me. I’m not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don’t have peace here.” —Manny Ramirez
