Re: Prof. Lessig
I think people who visit my tumblr know I am a pretty big Obama guy. With that said, avid reader Niko brings up some good points while commenting on the Prof. Lawrence Lessig video I posted Tuesday.
The following is Niko’s comment with a link from a DailyKos post entry that he recommends:
I had a few issues with this piece:
-His position on the war can not be compared to Hillary’s. His constituency was that of a mid-size neighborhood in Chicago, while Hillary represented the state with what is considered the city capital of the world. One has to wonder if he would have made the same decision at the national level.
-Bill and Hillary have gotten a free pass for their below the belt politics in 1992 (Paul Tsongas); however I feel s if their truly mild attack on Obama was over magnified by the Obama camp. They even went far as to inject race into the campaign, and charge the Clinton camp with racism. (When in doubt yell racism!). How will the Obama camp deal with a truly aggressive and Rovian Republican machine that won’t back down? They might even appear weak.
-Since when did Bill Clinton become the enemy of the Democratic Party? George Bush’s basis of the 1992 campaign “character” and the Democrats battled it as if it was irrelevant. It’s pretty hypocritical for Lessig to insert it as an issue now. And I thought it was pretty “Rovian” to often associate Hillary to Bill’s Clinton’s Presidency as if it was anything but wildly successful.
(The true Rovian attack is to chip away at one’s strong points, exactly what Lessig did)
I like Obama, but the MAIN problem with him is that he is incredibly inexperienced at managing an office of this magnitude. That’s not to say he wouldn’t have my vote, but that is truly a legitimate point.Update: This DailyKos post addresses my concerns and solidifies Peter’s position…
