Lisa F. Jackson goes inside the Manhattan district attorney’s Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit, where 40 senior assistant district attorneys oversee more than 300 pending cases on any given day. One featured case is that of Natasha Alexenko, who was raped at gunpoint in 1993. Her rape kit was opened just nine months before the case was scheduled to go cold, the DNA was entered into a national database, and her attacker was finally brought to justice.
